Across The Line has been leading the field in music programs for radio, and it was a natural step into TV with ATL TV. As part of their show they commissioned local directors to work with local bands, producing music videos for them, to be screened each week as part of the show.
I was told that the band, who I was to shoot, were a cross between Iron Maiden & Slayer … how could I refuse such a combination?! The band was called ‘Fallen’, and the name of the song was called ‘Wicked Potion’.
We went to a gig they were playing in local rock spot called The Rosetta, just to check them out, and decided to bring the cameras along to maybe shoot a couple of things. As it turned out they were so good on stage that it would have been criminal not to have it in the video, so it became a blend of live footage from the gig, and stuff we shot at the other location.
A friend was gutting his house, with the intention of laying new floors, stairs, furniture, the works, so we had a bare shell to work with … a very dusty, bare shell. This was where the whole shoot took place, over a weekend, one day with the band, and one day with our actor Colin Shields.
We had a great weekend, and my DOP for that weekend was friend Mark Keegan, and was a great help as one-by-one the lights blew. By the last couple of shots we were down to one light, and creative camerawork!
All good fun. Cheers to the Fallen guys for letting me shoot it, & cheers to the ATL folks for teaming us up.
