CAMERA SHOTS & STORY AS BELOW :
-opens with a wide view of a mountains silhouetted, branchy trees and the full moon. stars are twinkling in the night sky.
In the deep of the night on a magical evening of rare heavenly alignment and in a place known by few
-zooming in, going past a lonely, stone tower and a tree, a squirrel sits up and blinks, birds readjust themselves in their nests and the camera finds the evil sorcerer. some evil was lurking.
-hooded, cloaked figure with a shovel. [tink tink tink] shot of feet walking through grass, and past a woody hedge.
-digging clay from the earth by the light of the full moon was Derlek, a sorcerer of dark magic,
-foot to spade, spade into earth and this enchanted piece of earth was being harvested for an evil purpose.
-zoom out, back to wide night sky shot, cut to blinking squirrel on the way.
-he took it back to his tower,
-exterior shot of tower, moving up towards the window. shutters closed but light spilling out ever so slightly.
a cold, foreboding place, and from it sculpted a monster,
-shutters open and we enter. we see derlek from behind, sculpting. [all arms and glowing magic] bringing it to life with an evil spell.
-you see, Derlek hated people. He hated their laughter and their happiness and had moved long ago to the desolate, remote tower
up on the mountainside where no noise from people could reach him.
-derlek slams the shutters closed, blocking out the world and us. camera pans to the tree.
-however, beside this tower grew a beautiful plum tree. Not only was its fruit luscious and tasty in the summer,
-birds twitter in the branches, hopping about but its branches were fantastic for climbing and playing in.
-amy, a happy little girl who lived in the valley below the mountain
-looking down as if from the tree branches, we see a happy little girl smiling and spinning around. had discovered this beautiful plum tree
and every day she would come and play in it.
-amy loved not only to climb its branches and pick the juicy plums
-amy climbing the tree. but also to play at its base. She would dance in the shade it offered from the sun
-amy skips through the grass, camera finds the daisies. and make daisy chains from the flowers that grew in the grass around it.
-her laughter and singing could be heard from all the way up in the tower,
-shot of tower through tree, as if from amy eye level, on the ground. and it made Derlek furious.
-shot looks out of tower window from behind Derlek showing tree carrying laughter to his angry ears. HA HA HA . . . [up through the branches] -Derlek growls and slams the shutters closed.
-his hatred of people and laughter and happiness, ANY HAPPINESS, was so great that he began trolling through his books of dark magic
-Derlek's eyes glow red and he hits the books. He scans many volumes on the shelves, picks a few, and begins to search. looking for a spell evil enough to bring it to an end.
-it was then that he came upon the evil recipe
-derlek's finger points into an evil spell book. for the monster he was making from the enchanted clay of the mountain.
-Derlek hard at work shaping the form of the monster and consulting his evil recipe book
-the monster was called Speedle,
-a shot of the monster, slowly zooming in on his face. born for this evil purpose from this magical piece of earth, Speedle knew that to keep his shape and freedom and be allowed to live, he must complete the task for which he was created.
-speedle finding his perch outside the tower window on the ledge. He must stop the little girl and end her happiness.
-if he did not, his clay form would harden like the stone of the tower and he would be forever frozen where he perched.
-shot pulls out and down showing the tower at night with the moon in the background. cold and lonely.
-and so, he took his place on the outside of the tower and waited for the day and for the little girl to come and play.
-the sun rose and it was a beautiful day,
-the sun rises from behind the mountain.
-the first day he had ever seen.
-speedle blinks.
-the grass glistened with dew,
-glistening grass.
-the plum tree's branches with the birds twittering happily among them, swayed in the breeze
-swaying tree branches full of twittering birds.
-and the cold stone of the tower felt warm.
-speedle raises his face to the sun and blinks slowly.
-when the little girl arrived up to play, singing happily, she surprised the monster out of a daze.
-speedles eyes do a surprised blink and widen.
-he had slipped deep into thought and marvel at the world before him.
-cut between amy in the grass, birds in the trees, a squirrel blinking.
-he found himself thinking that sunshine and singing and happiness were good things and having this thought saddened him.
-it saddened him because of the part he was to play in ending these good things.
-speedle sighs with his shoulders and his eyes go heavy again.
-but he knew that he must if he was to have life himself.
-Speedle decided that he would wait until later in the day to fulfil his purpose.
-camera pans to scenery of tree, from tower view.
-for now he wanted to watch the little girl play
-cut to amy in the grass. and the birds twitter
-cut to birds in the tree. and the beautiful tree sway, for a little while longer in order to be able to recall all of this innocence and beauty in detail, a long time after he had brought it to an end.
-camera pulls back to show whole tree beside tower.
-he watched all day trying to take in as much of this joy as he could and as the sun began to wane towards the mountains he found himself wishingthe day could have been longer.
-the sun moving towards the mountains, the sky darkens.
-his sadness was returning, it crept back up on him infecting the memory of the warmth and happiness he had witnessed.
-he was running out of time.
-speedle heavy with thought again.
-watching the little girl,
-shot of amy
-the birds
-shot of birds close up
-and the tree
-slowly zoom out to show whole tree and then surroundings. for just one day had filled him with wonder and compassion for life and he
didn't want to hurt any of it. What could he do?
-just as the sun began to dip behind the mountains and cause the little girl to
-the sun edges behind the mountain side
-to think of heading home, a powerful thought occurred to Speedle. What if he just let her go?
-shot of speedle thinking hard
-he had a choice. He could choose not to fulfil his evil purpose. It would mean the sacrifice of his own chance at life and freedom but by
doing so he would leave this happiness and innocence unharmed. He didn't want to hurt the happy little girl.
-face shot of speedle from the front
'-Yes', he thought, by forgoing his own chance at living he could allow all of her beauty and innocence and enjoyment of good things, to continue.
-the weight lifts from his face
-with the afternoon sun fading quickly to evening, that is what he decided to do. He watched from his perch on the tower as the little girl, unaware of the
-side shot of speedle on the tower, wide enough to take in the tree
fate she had so narrowly escaped, went home.
-amy disappearing as she skips away home
The sun,
-sun dips out of sight behind the mountains
set and the moon began to rise
-moon and stars appear one by one
and Speedle prepared himself for night
-speedle looks toeards the moon and settles on his perch.
and to be turned into stone forever.
As the moon reached the top of the night sky
he could feel himself begining to change.
-light particles appear around speedle.
He was not frightened because he knew that he had made the right choice
-face shot of speedle, content looking.
and although he would not be able to enjoy watching her play as he had done
all that day, he knew she would still come and be happy.
With this thought in his mind
the monster became stone.
-speedle changes to a stone, gargoyle type version of himself. Fade out.
He is still there,
-day shot of happy tree, birds, mountains.
perched on the tower over the old plum tree
-camera moves to tower with closed shutters and speedle gargoyle.
and as each full moon reaches its height in the night sky,
-picture fades to night.
the monster, warmed by its cool glow
appears to be smiling.
-face shot of speedle, a slight smile, peaceful and content looking. pulls
back to include tower, then up and out to the night sky. stars twinkling.
